Teacher game!

I’m not known as the teacher that plays games. Although many ESL teachers play lots of games and incorporate them into the curriculum, I’m not one of them. I don’t like powerpoint games because I don’t like how everyone has to stare at the screen to be involved, which there are bound to be students who will not do anything but sit and talk to other students. Besides the fact, I have no idea how…

Oh my I’ve been MIA

Lately, I haven’t been as good about updating as I would like to be. I have many things to write about, and I plan to make a few posts about that in the near future. I have been busy with the application process for next year, more on that later, lesson planning to submit to the POE by Friday, went to a wedding, and making a larger non-textbook related lesson to span a few classes.…

It’s that time of the year– to resign or not

( We all hope our recommendation letters make us out to be fabulous.) As most people teaching with EPIK know there are two main intakes one in February and one in August.  As I am part of the February intake, my school should approach me soon to ask me if I am staying and resigning with them or not. About three weeks ago I asked my main co-teacher for a letter of recommendation as I…

A Fork in the Cake

For the past few months a few of my third grade middle school girls have been asking me to cook for them. I normally go away on the weekends and they study for exams so it has been hard to organize a get together. Well, at the beginning of September we decided on September 28th, to cook. The girls requests included baked spaghetti and coconut cake.

Reflections from a hospital bed

Thought #1 Is hospital beds suck. I have never been a patient before and the fact my back, ass, hips and leg hurt for days because of a terrible bed doesn’t sit well with me. Comfier beds would be a great improvement. Thought #2 Hospitalized grannies are very talkative and entertaining. I have been staying with four of them, one doesn’t speak but nods her head yes or no and smiles. One of the grannies…

Visiting the OBGYN

As we ladies know, we should be visiting this lovely doctor once a year. With my work schedule and where I live, I figured it would be hard to make an appointment with an English speaking doctor. However, I saw a blog post here , and I decided to go to Mediflower myself.  I had a whole week off on vacation so I figured fitting that type of appointment in was a good idea.

Back to the Village! I’m Free~

I have been officially discharged from the hospital. The unofficial explanation was snake bite and so that’s what we are going to say it was. The ordeal took 8 days at the hospital to clear up, however, I am finally at home. The good news is I can put weight on my foot and travel the distance around my apartment, yet it still needs to be iced and receive rest. Like my ice pack from home?

A Bug? A Snake?! The Mysterious Sting Ends at the Hospital

2013/07/26 by Nina 16 Comments Wednesday night at about 9 pm I went for a walk. As I was heading down the concrete path by the school something stung the side of my left foot. Immediately, I used my cell phone to check my foot and noticed a little blood, I looked for the culprit and found nothing. As soon as I put my left foot down again, I realized I could no longer stand…

Learning to be a Teacher

Teaching is a job that has moments of joy and fury. The moments of joy far out weigh the moments of fury.  This is my first year as a teacher and guess what? I’m not perfect. I’m probably not even a great teacher yet, however that is not the point. The point of being a teacher is that you are meant to grow. What have I learned in the last four months of teaching?
